What we know about EuroGrand

According to our research, the contracting party of EuroGrand is WHG (International) Ltd, based at 601/701 Europort, Europort Road, Gibraltar GX11 1AA. The platform holds a licence from the MGA (Malta Gaming Authority) (MGA/CRP/121/2006; Gibraltar Licensing Authority, Betting RGL 042 / Gaming RGL 034). The parent company is the William Hill Group (now Evoke plc).

EuroGrand was discontinued by William Hill in November 2021 (player deadline: 24.01.2022). The eurogrand.at site is still accessible and displays advertising content, but it is no longer an active casino platform, presumably an affiliate or information page. The original operator was WHG (International) Ltd, Gibraltar. According to the register, the MGA licence MGA/CRP/121/2006 is still recorded under WHG (status: Licensed).

Online casino offerings aimed at Austrian players require a licence in Austria. Without this licence under the Gambling Act, the underlying contract is void. Under settled Austrian Supreme Court (OGH) case law, losses can be reclaimed retroactively for up to thirty years.

Online poker, too, is subject to the Austrian gambling monopoly under OGH case law and therefore requires a licence. Providers without an Austrian licence breach the Gambling Act, the contracts are void, and stakes can be reclaimed.

Sports betting, unlike online casinos, is generally legal in Austria. A reclaim is possible through partial legal incapacity under Section 865 Austrian Civil Code. Pathological gambling addiction during the loss period is established by expert opinion in the proceedings, and we organise the medical specialist report together after instruction. As a rule, litigation is economically viable from around 50,000 euros in losses per provider.

The litigation route applies regardless of where the betting provider is based. Austrian-licensed online betting providers can also be sued, as long as the betting relationship arose online. Betting cafes with cash on site are a different constellation.

How we proceed
